We are proud to announce that our caregiver of the week is Lucy Muiruri! This is Lucy's second time to be selected for caregiver of the week!

Lucy was one of HealthBridge's first employees and is still with us to this day. She is an amazing person and caregiver. Lucy is a highly valued employee of HealthBridge and we truly appreciate everything she does.

Jane is an exceptional caregiver. She is always willing to do whatever she can to make her clients happy. No matter the circumstance or situation, Jane will be there with a smile on her face. We believe that when you're selecting caregivers, you can certainly use Jane as a model.

Why did you become a caregiver?

To take care of people and perform health related activities that a sick person can not perform independently. 

Tell us the Funniest moment you've had caring for a senior?

I once was teaching a senior how to clean his dentures. I was talking very loudly so he could hear me and at the end of my teaching he said "honey, I am old, not deaf!" 

Describe something interesting you've learned from a client.

I have learned to enjoy every moment of my life no matter the circumstance.

If you weren't a caregiver, what other type of work would you enjoy?

Human resources.

What is one thing you wish your clients knew about you, but don't?

That I am very patient.

What's your favorite movie?

The Pursuit of Happiness.

Outside of work, what's your favorite activity?

Watching movies with my 14 month old son. 

If you could go anywhere on vacation, where would you go?

The Bahamas.

What's your favorite time of year?

Spring.

Who is your hero?

My mom.

What a milestone!  In the past 10 months, subscriptions to HealthBridge's Senior Care Blog have grown 643%.  Congratulations to all our contributors and thank you to all of our dedicated readers.  We value your time and opinions and are very thankful to have you as fans!

The Richardson Chamber of Commerce hosted a kick off event today for its Live Healthy North Texas program.  Live Healthy North Texas is designed to help individuals and companies begin an active, healthy lifestyle. 

Who better to deliver the keynote at a health and wellness event than Dr. Kenneth Cooper, the world-renown creator of modern aerobic fitness?

Dr. Cooper inspired attendees at the event by describing how simple changes to your lifestyle can add years to your life.

Dr. Kenneth CooperHealthBridge will join the Richardson Chamber of Commerce as we start off the Live Healthy North Texas 100 Day Challenge with an inspirational message from Dr. Kenneth Cooper, founder of the Cooper Aerobics Center

Kenneth H. Cooper, M.D., M.P.H., pioneered the concept of preventive medicine and continues to be an international authority on how to live a healthy lifestyle. For anyone who has seen him in action, at age 78, he is a living, breathing example of what consistent exercise, proper nutrition, proper supplementation, maintaining a healthy weight and stress management can do for a person. He preaches these pillars as ways to achieve the best quality and quantity of life possible…and he’s experiencing both.

Cooper Aerobics Center in Dallas is an international leader in health and wellness research, education, products and services - all designed to help people achieve optimum health and fitness at every stage of life.

HealthBridge CEO Matt Johnson has the dubious task of following Dr. Cooper's speech by delivering closing remarks at the event.

Courtney Layton to Represent Alzheimer's Association at Disneyland

Alzheimer's AssociationWhen the Greater Dallas Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association learned they were able to invite one volunteer to join them at a conference, they turned to HealthBridge Vice President Courtney Layton.  

As part of the 2010 Memory Walk Conference, Courtney will be traveling to Anaheim, California to represent the Greater Dallas Alzheimer's Association February 4th and 5th. 

Courtney will be working with chapters of the Alzhiemer's Association from around the country to:

  • Run world class events
  • Build the volunteer infrastructure for the Memory Walk
  • Attract and retain sponsors and participants

Courtney LaytonCourtney is the Vice President of HealthBridge and the author of the Essential Senior Care Documents Guide.  Courtney holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Texas. 

The Greater Dallas Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association is the organization responsible for the annual Memory Walk in the Metroplex.  The Memory Walk is a fun, family oriented fundraiser that brings tens of thousands of people together in support of finding a cure for Alzheimer's Disease.

Why did you become a caregiver?

I truly care about the elderly and when I was younger my elderly grandma needed care and I couldn't provide it for her because I was too young so I told myself that one day I would care for the elderly.

Tell us the Funniest moment you've had caring for a senior?

When one of my patient's would know exactly who I was one day, we would be best friends the next and he would have no idea who I was the next.

Describe something interesting you've learned from a client.

I have learned that the elderly are so appreciative. 

If you weren't a caregiver, what other type of work would you enjoy?

I would like to be an LVN or RN.

What is one thing you wish your clients knew about you, but don't?

I wish they knew how much compassion I have for them.

What's your favorite movie?

Titanic

Outside of work, what's your favorite activity?

I like to play and watch soccer.

If you could go anywhere on vacation, where would you go?

Hawaii

What's your favorite time of year?

December because of the Holiday's.

Who is your hero?

Jesus Christ

I became a caregiver because I love people so much.

My current client has the best sense of humor. He is always making me laugh!

Describe something interesting you've learned from a client.

I have learned that money is not everything. My kids are the most important thing to me. 

If you weren't a caregiver, what other type of work would you enjoy?

I would enjoy being a Truck Driver.

What is one thing you wish your clients knew about you, but don't?

That I am going to have a baby.

The Color Purple

Outside of work, what's your favorite activity?

Bingo.

Africa.
