From the Hearts and Minds of Senior Care Givers

Posted by Matt Johnson on Thu, Sep 17, 2009 @ 07:55 AM

For the past few months, we've recognized several of our outstanding caregivers as the Dallas Senior Care Giver of the Week.  We've had a lot of fun collecting client feedback and celebrating one fantastic caregiver each week.  Each recipient gets a little token of appreciation and is interviewed for the In-Home Care Blog.

To make the interviews even more fun, we use a "Proust Questionnaire" format, with each caregiver answering the same list of introspective questions each week.   Over time, we've collected some wonderful responses.  Here are a few of my favorites:

Describe something interesting you've learned from a client.

When they try to work with me and we do things together, we accomplish more. - Charles Iroha

Tell us the Funniest moment you've had caring for a senior?

One of my client's loved to dance and we would dance together all the time and have so much fun. - Mary Mwara

Who is your hero?

God, he gives me wisdom and strength to get up and do my job every day. - Denise Robinson

What is one thing you wish your clients knew about you, but don't?

I truly love everything I do for my clients. - Julie Kinlow

Tell us the Funniest moment you've had caring for a senior?

When one of my patients said to me "that boy can not give me a shower!" because of my short hair. - Maudy Chambers

If you weren't a caregiver, what other type of work would you enjoy?

I would enjoy doing case management or social work so I could continue to be a part of peoples' lives. - Tierny Moore

Describe something interesting you've learned from a client.

Me and one of my patients were watching tv. We started talking about how hard it is when people are being judgmental. I asked her what to do when you are in that situation, do you just walk away? My patient told me to just "pray for them." That blew me away. - Christine Jones

I believe I can speak for our entire staff when I say, "Thank you," to these outstanding caregivers.   You enrich our clients' lives and give our clients' families peace of mind.  We appreciate you every day.

If your caregiver should be the Dallas Senior Care Giver of the Week, please drop me a note and let me know.

It so important that quality caregivers get this kind of recognition. Their role in people's lives is tremendous and they deserve praise and admiration - especially when they do their jobs exceptionally.
